Aid for Typhoon Haiyan

Why have some countries donated more in aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan than others? 
A reason why some countries have donated more in aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan than others is because of their wealth. Countries like the United States and the United Kingdom have donated more to the victims and the areas affected by the Typhoon because they are much richer than others or have a higher GDP. However, even if some countries have lower GDPs, they still continue to aid the Philippines with money.
However, an anomaly that can be seen when observing the list of countries that have donated, their amount, and their GDP is China. China, with a high GDP has donated, compared to other countries, a small amount of about $100,000. A possible reason for this is because of geopolitical conflicts between the Philippines and China with the South China Sea or the West Philippines Sea. 

How does the aid being sent to victims of Typhoon Haiyan represent the following:
Altruism: Altruism is the act of donating for the well-being of others, and being unselfish. Countries or companies would be donating because they have emotionally been affected by the many victims that have suffered and they care. Companies like Samsung, the NBA, etc. could aid the victims by sending financial support because they were affected by disaster, however, there are also potential underlying reasons why these countries or companies are donating money. 
Geopolitics: As I stated above in the first question, an anomaly seen in the correlation between the GDP of a country and the amount of donations is China. Geopolitic conflicts such as China's conflict with the Philippines about the South China Sea or West Philippine Sea could take a huge part in their decision with the amount of donations. 
Neo-colonialism: Neo-colonialism may be one of the reasons why a country could be financially supporting this disaster. Countries like the United States and the United Kingdom are the two regions that have donated the most. However, neo-colonialism could be viewed to be negative, because by donating money, it will allow countries to 'look good' in front of other countries or the Philippines. Companies such as Samsung and NBA may not be donating for the purpose of altruism but the purpose of neo-colonialism. By donating a huge amount of money, they are not only helping the victims of the typhoon but are also promoting their company, and improving their image.
